I think the most shocking nomination at for this year's Academy Awards would be "Surf's Up as one of the Best Animated Features. I know there were a few other surprises, but this is the one that had me scratching my head.
This is Happy Feet with surfboards, without songs and a little more attitude.
There were a few other features I thought were more deserving of a nomination: "Bee Movie," "Shrek the Third," "Beowulf" or "The Simpsons Movie." "Surf's Up" came out of left field.
Do you think another nomination was more shocking than this? Do you agree with me?

Though I enjoyed SURF'S UP, I agree that there were more interesting choices overlooked, especially the unusually dark BEE MOVIE.

NORBIT for makeup - please do not encourage Eddie Murphy's addiction to spirit gum.
But I'm more surprised at the insight of other nominations.
THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM for editing - action movies are usually shunned in favor of more serious (and usually overlong) pictures.
AMERICAN GANGSTER for art direction - I'm usually rooting for fantasy pictures in this category over period pictures, but in this case the feeling of the times was so important, so understated, and so right on.
