As the days of beating the heat in backyard swimming pools and spas draw to a close, the Lake County Health Department/Community Health Center is providing tips for proper draining of pools and spas that will help minimize any negative effects on the environment.

Since tests have confirmed the presence of fish-killing Viral Hemorrhagic Septicemia (VHS) in the Lake County waters of Lake Michigan, the Lake County Health Department and the Lake County Forest Preserves are urging recreational anglers and boaters to follow emergency regulations set by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR). The purpose of these regulations is to slow the spread of VHS into other waters in Illinois. The regulations include:
