The Vernon Hills Park District is taking entries for its Father's Day Essay Contest, with essays due by 9 a.m. on June 6. One winner will be chosen for kids in two age groups, 5 to 8 and 9 to 12. Participants need to write an essay in 200 words or less about why they think their dads are so special. Winners' fathers will receive a $25 gift certificate to a local restaurant.

Entries must be turned in to the Sullivan Community Center, 635 N. Aspen Drive. All entries are subject to being printed in local newspapers, but no addresses or phone numbers will be included. Call the district with questions at 847-996-6805.
