As the days of beating the heat in backyard swimming pools and spas draw to a close, the Lake County Health Department/Community Health Center is providing tips for proper draining of pools and spas that will help minimize any negative effects on the environment.

The Lake County Health Department/Community Health Center’s STD/HIV Program invites all Lake County residents to join or support their team NEED2KNOW in the upcoming AIDS Run and Walk in Chicago on Saturday, September 20. All funds raised by team NEED2KNOW will support community education, outreach and other support programs through the Health Department’s STD/HIV Program.

In conjunction with National Preparedness Month in September, the Lake County Health Department/Community Health Center encourages all residents to play an active roll in preparing for an emergency.

In celebration of the Smoke-Free Illinois Act and the strengthening of Highland Park’s Smoke Free Ordinance the Lake County Health Department/Community Health Center and the Healthy Highland Park Task Force collaborated on a media campaign. The campaign promoted anti-smoking messages organized by local high school students, including students from the Lake County chapter of the tobacco prevention youth group REALITY Illinois. Collected quotes were cross-stitched to form a colorful quilt displayed at First Bank of Highland Park.

The Lake County Health Department/Community Health Center touches the lives of countless Lake Countians every day while providing restaurant inspections, childhood immunizations and other vital services. As it celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, it is clear it has come a long way since its doors first opened to the public on September 2, 1958.
