Halloween may be just around the corner, but kids weren't afraid of the water at the Recreation Center of Highland Park Oct. 10.

With leaves changing color and the temperatures dipping, the Chicago Botanic Garden celebrated the beginning of fall with its annual Harvest Festival.

The Park District of Highland Park celebrated the end of the dog days of summer with Woofstock, a free event for families and family dogs.

Squads of volunteers hit the beaches Sept. 20 armed with gloves and refuse bags.

More than 150 people were already waiting in line when the doors opened at the new Half Price Books Highland Park store Sept. 18. Many said they were already familiar with other stores in the Dallas-based chain, and wanted to be there when the 101st store opened.
