Village Board modifies political signage code

From the Village of GLencoe:

At its July meeting, and upon the recommendation of the Zoning Commission, the Village Board approved modifications to the Village Code regarding the display of political signs in the community. The following list summarizes the conditions for the display of political signs.

POLITICAL ELECTION SIGN REQUIREMENTS IN EFFECT FOR THE NOVEMBER GENERAL ELECTION:

- Political election signs may be displayed beginning August 29, 2008.

- Signs may be displayed on private property but not on the public right-of-way. In most cases, the public right-of-way begins at the sidewalk, which is approximately 33 feet from the center of the street.

- Signs may be up to 6 square feet in size and a maximum of 4 feet in height from the ground to the top of the sign.

- Signs should be removed immediately after the November 4 Election Day.

- No more than one sign per candidate or referendum position shall be permitted on any property.

Political message signs, as opposed to election signs, are ones that express a non-commercial message regarding an issue of political or public concern. This type of sign can be displayed at all times but must be located entirely on private property and may not be displayed in the required setback of a homeowner’s property.
